Especially when the price is this!

You can imagine I was having a pretty great day last Friday! It got even better when I learned the $9 price was BEFORE the extra 20% discount being offered this month.

It just kept getting better…there were TWO OF THEM!

I practically raced home to try out my new favorite shade of pink on these babies—Benjamin Moore “Sugarcane.”

Before getting started, I smoothed out a few of the roughest spots with 220-grit sandpaper.

I also removed the drawer knob::

Then, I mixed my own chalk paint with BB Frösch Chalk Paint Powder. I used a sample jar of Behr paint color-matched to Benjamin Moore “Sugarcane.”

I have found that, for most chalk-painted projects, I prefer to apply the first coat in a fairly thin layer. I call it a “bonding” coat—it dries very quickly and gives subsequent coat(s) something to bond to. Of course, you can paint the first coat thicker and often get incredible coverage, I just like the end results when I start with a thin initial coat.

It doesn’t look amazing…but it will! I wanted to show this so you would know not to despair if this is how your first coat looks:

The second coat went on like a dream, and in record time!

I did apply a third coat in a few small areas, but each table still used less than half of the 8 oz. sample jar of paint.

Once the paint was dry, I smoothed the entire surface. I didn’t want any distressing, so I used 400-grit sandpaper for this step.

Finally, I waxed the tables with BB Frösch Clear Premium Finishing Wax to seal and protect the finish.

One table took about an hour from start to finish. That’s my kind of project!

With the exception of the new knobs, which I had on hand from a previous Homegoods haul, I spent a total of about $20 for both tables--paint, tables, powder, and all!
